When it comes to the purest digital control available, Spektrum raises the bar over and over again. Spektrum has once again set the RC world on its ear with the debut of the hottest, fastest, most secure and reliable radio ever made for an RC car — the Spektrum DX3R. Forever changing the radio landscape, the DX3R provides all the features that discerning hobbyists around the world demand. Beyond the basics, the DX3R brings several new technologies to the market that, when combined, offer the RC car or truck enthusiast the most-responsive and fastest radio…period.

The first thing someone will notice about the Spektrum DX3R is the different and distinct look of the casing. Designed with form, comfort, and functionality in mind, the DX3R is uniquely different. The massive LCD display is easy to read and manipulate. It also provides a graphical display of both your throttle and steering exponential rates instead of simply using a percentage. This makes it possible to truly see the changes to the exponential curve and feel them instead of guessing what an adjustment will do. The DX3R is a snap to navigate as well thanks to the intuitive Rolling Selector. This function allows for three different inputs—scrolling up, scrolling down, and it can be pushed in to select an on-screen feature. This type of interface makes the DX3R one of the most inviting and easy-to-tune radios ever made. The DX3R has even more advanced features than just the display and Rolling Selector. Since the DX3R uses a 100% digital signal and transmission method, it requires significantly less power to operate. Thanks to this advancement, the DX3R uses only four AA batteries for power. This greatly reduces the DX3R’s overall weight and improves the feel and balance of the radio. A fold-down antenna design protects the antenna from damage during transport. The DX3R can even be converted from right- to left-hand use quickly and easily in a matter of minutes, all without requiring the purchase of any additional components.

Technology
Radios can look and feel great, but it’s the software and technology inside the case that makes the biggest difference. Taking a page from Spektrum’s latest aircraft radio, the DX7, the DX3R utilizes an optimized form of 2.4GHz DSM technology, known as DSM2. DSM2 is what makes a lot of the magic happen with the DX3R. With DSM2 technology, the exceptional signal integrity and security that hobbyists have come to depend on is bolstered by an increase in bit-rate and path diversity that allows a DSM2-equipped receiver to “see” more of the RF signal. This translates to an increase in the data transmission rate which provides a further increase in both frame rate and responsiveness. When combined, it is this advancement made possible by DSM2 technology that makes the DX3R the fastest radio ever designed for RC car and truck use. Speaking of frame rate, the DX3R features an adjustable frame rate to make the best use of the servo and receiver being used in a particular model. The DX3R can be set to broadcast with a frame rate of 22ms, 11ms, or 5.5ms.

Another innovative feature of the DX3R is ModelMatch. With ModelMatch, a unique code is assigned to each receiver during the binding process. SR3100 can recognize which specific model has been selected in the DX3R. If the ModelMatch code doesn’t match, the SR3100 will not provide any input to the model; it simply stays in failsafe mode until the correct model memory is selected from the menu. This important safety feature prevents runaways if you have selected the wrong model memory. Finally, the DX3R is completely backwards-compatible with existing Spektrum receivers, allowing you to utilize any SR3000, SR3100, or SR3500 receivers you may currently have.

Programming Features
One of the biggest deciding factors in choosing a radio is the software. Much like a home computer, the menu system can make or break a radio. If a radio isn’t intuitive and easy to use and features aren’t easy to access, hobbyists won’t adopt even the most groundbreaking radio. The DX3R’s incredibly easy-to-navigate and feature-packed menu is inviting to use. The steering and throttle exponentials are displayed graphically on the DX3R’s large LCD Screen, providing a graphical display of any changes you make. Speaking of the DX3R’s large display, a multi-character model naming system eliminates the need to come up with abbreviations for your model name. If you drive a Team Losi JRX-S Type R, you have the ability to name your model memory location JRX-S Type R. It sounds overly simple, doesn’t it? Speaking of memory locations, the DX3R has room to store profiles for up to 30-different models. You can now have one radio to rule all your vehicles.

SR3100 Receiver
The transmitter is only half the picture when designing a new, world-class radio system. A receiver that can understand, interpret, and translate your transmitter inputs into the proper movements in your car is imperative to being successful. The DX3R includes an all-new racing receiver, the SR3100. The SR3100 features a tiny footprint that can fit on even the most cramped chassis. Don’t let the SR3100’s small size fool you; it has also been crammed with innovative features. The SR3100 was designed from the ground up to work with the DX3R’s DSM2 protocol, providing the fastest radio system on the market. By utilizing DSM2 technology, the SR3100 sees more of the RF signal and provides the very best RF link available. It is also thanks to DSM2 technology that the SR3100 is compatible with ModelMatch.

Beyond DSM2 technology, the SR3100 has a number of other useful features. Four receiver input ports allow you to plug-in accessories such as personal transponders and cooling fans. As with all Spektrum receivers, the SR3100 features a built-in fail-safe to prevent runaways in the event of a signal loss. Finally, the SR3100 features a short aerial, eliminating the need to ruin the aerodynamics of your body with an unsightly antenna tube.

Conclusion
While DX3R’s intelligently designed ergonomics are the first thing that catches the eye, it is the superior responsiveness of its advanced 2.4GHz DSM2 technology that will get people talking. In addition to unparalleled freedom and interference protection, DSM2 has a faster response time than any other spread spectrum or PPM system. With it, you will be able to hold the “line” around a track with a level of precision and control unlike anything you have experienced before. And because DSM2 uses direct sequence spread spectrum technology, you’ll maintain this superior response rate no matter how “noisy” the 2.4GHz environment gets.

The Spektrum DX3R does what few thought possible before, and that is to improve upon Spektrum’s patented 2.4GHz DSM technology. With the advent of the new DSM2 protocol, the DX3R and SR3100 provide hobbyists with the fastest, most precise, safest, and easiest-to-program radio system ever available. For existing Spektrum users, the DX3R is even compatible with previous generation receivers, providing an even greater value.

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
Got the DX3R as my first programmable radio/High end radio.

Wow was i suprised how easy and good this radio was. Comparing to the TRX 2.4 i used, i didnt even get a glitch for about 10hours of running with the DX3R. with the TRX 2.4, i got at least 1-2 glitches in a 10hour period

I use this in my crawler, and the easy access to the 3rd channel switch is my favorite part of this radio. Also, a HUGE part of it, is the VERY VERY easy to use menu, to set up your Expos, etc.. I didnt even need the Instruction manual to use it.

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
I am pleased with my dx3r. I haven't had it very long, so far everything is working well. Bind and setup was straightforward. A quick read through the manual and in no time had my 1st model to my liking. The menu is very easy to navigate and understand. It feels nice in your hand, good weight and feel. The controls are precision and very quick. Keep in mind this review is coming from somebody that's been using intermediate am radios for ages and been putting off the purchase of a nice transmitter and I did _not_ know what I was missing. Folks have been reporting the bind issue...it is a problem for certain radios ((last 4 digits located under the battery door ) : 0712, 0801, 0802)) that spektrum has acknowledged and if they send the transmitter to Horizon it will get repaired, it's inconvenient but at least Horizon is owning up. Enjoy your new transmitter, I know I am.

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
I have only the best to say about this radio set.

Haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. Easy to set up and incredibly fast, no "binding" issues. Probably half of the racers in my club use the DX3R.

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
Update: Recently I've experienced random bind failure. I sent in to Horizon Hobby for repair two weeks ago and every time I contact them, its the same 5-10 day turn-around time, with no further information. I've lost out on three weeks of racing, what a big disappointment! I guess to run Spektrum you have to buy two, to ensure you don't miss out on any racing. I may re-think running this radio. -//- I'd recommend. So far, no problems. Great response time and only 4 AA's is nice. It's very light with good overall feel. Menus are simple and easy to use. Overall, great radio!

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
Super nice radio, I love the feel on it in my hands. I'm also amazed by its weight, super light, I highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for a hi end controller, this is at the same level as the Nomadio sensor, Airtronics M11 and futaba 3pk, trust me, I have owned them.

Spektrum RC DX3R DSM2 3CH Surface High Speed Racing Radio
thier is a solution to the problem call horizon up the numbers on the back of your radio manual and tell them the problem and they'll tell you where to go from there -//- after you get the radio back DO give it another shot it really is a great radio just has a few bobbles with it being an entirely new system. I myself had a bobble with the unbinding and sent it off to horizon last wednesday and from what i've heard them updating the firmware fixes any and all problems with it unbinding
