This is the Losi 1/18 Mini Rock Crawler Pro Race Roller. Designed as a competition ready 1.9 class rock crawler, the Mini Rock Crawler Pro Race Roller dominated the field as a prototype on its first trip to the rocks at the 2009 World Championships. The 1/18 Mini Rock Crawler Pro dominated the inaugural 1.9 Class and earned the World Champion title, driven by Losi Crawling team driver Jay Robinette. Being only a prototype at the time of the competition, some designed changes have been made since then making it even more of a true competitor.

Key Features:

  • Carbon Fiber Twin Vertical Plate Chassis: Lightweight, Carbon Fiber TVP Chassis for reduced center of gravity with suspension mounting locations to help tune the chassis for the desired performance
  • 4-Link Crawler Designed Suspension: New design, 4-Link Suspension provides precise/constant tire placement on the rocks throughout the entire range of suspension articulation.
  • Carbon Fiber, Adjustable Shock Arms: These arms provide for multiple mounting locations allowing for fine suspension tuning while being lightweight yet durable for the demands or rock crawling.
  • Near Zero Ackerman Steering Geometry: This steering geometry design features new spindles and steering drag link that provide a 1 foot tighter steering radius.
  • Front CV Driveshafts: The front constant velocity drive shafts offer increased performance over the standard axle shaft/cup while maintaining superior durability.
  • Threaded Aluminum Crawling Shocks: Threaded Hard Anodized aluminum Shock set with Titanium Nitride Shock shafts provide smooth and consistent shock dampening while the new shock cartridges feature a larger O-Ring to provide a better seal.
  • One-Piece Rear Lock-out Hubs and Axel Shafts: 1-piece Rear Hub Lockouts reduce the number of parts on the rear axle to a single piece heavy duty rear axle for less maintenance and weight
  • 1/101/18-scale Serve/Battery Mount: Front axle servo/battery mount allows for the flexibility to use either a 1/18 or a 1/10-scale servo for a lower center of gravity depending on application and preference or desired torque.
  • True Beadlock Wheels: True 4-piece Beadlock Black Chrome wheels ensure a secure tire mounting to the rim for extreme tire stress and allows for simple tire swaps without glue.
  • Blue Compound Mini Rock Claws: World Champion 1.9 blue compound Mini Rock Claws are included for the ultimate in traction with blue inserts.
  • Mini Grappler Pro Body: The body has been "pinched and dove tailed" to proved clearance for the tires under articulation and optimized to roll back over onto it's wheels.
  • Vertical Body Mounts: Vertical Body mounts minimize the crawler getting hung up on the rocks from the appending side body mounts.

Losi 1/18 Mini Rock Crawler Pro Race Roller
I have had this kit running for a few weeks now and am finally ready to write my review. Sadly I am really not that inpressed with this truck. If you are the guy that is going to run it bone stock out of the box in your living room I think this would be a GREAT truck, but if you are buying a kit you probably are not going to leave it stock and you are going to take it outside and find the biggest rock you can. I am running the Novac 380 crawler system, started out with the Losi mini servo, and a Protec 2S 1200 battery.

THE BAD
1. Hardware and mounting points. They used really way to small of hardware on some really critical points. I have stripped (with use not tightining) the stock servo mounts, to frame mounts, and three of the screws that hold the axels together.
2. Drive shafts. Twisted the rear in half my second time out and the front shows definate stress. I replaced them with Punisher shafts and love them.
3. Transmission. even with the slipper I managed to strip one of the plastic gears in the trans my third time out with it. I have ordered a metal gear set for it but the gears are not here yet, good thing I have a spare stock trans. I have also ordered the aluminum trans houseing.
4. Weight. This thing is so lite that I have trouble getting traction on most of the slick rock I have where I run it. The stock tires won't mount on any of my alumnium beadlocks because the beads are to small to get any grab, I have leaded the stock wheels and that helped a ton but it is still really bouncy even though I have the shocks set up so lite that under torque it will roll itself over to the side under full throtle on carpet from a standing start.

THE GOOD
1. Suspension. The suspension geomitry and adjustability is awsome. In the right situations and with enough weight to let the suspension work this little truck flexes for days for how small it is.
2. Tires, I am torn on these tires, I don't like them because they won't fit my heavy aluminum wheels but I love how soft and sticky they are. They are durable too even though they are some of the gummyest tires I have ever run, I have torn tires on some of the rocks here in Afghanastan and I have been pretty hard on these ones and managed not to tear one yet.
3. Price. 90 BUX!?!?! Are you kidding me? I shoulda bought two.

So, do I like it? Out of the box using the sugested parts, NO. Now that I have built it up ALOT and there are very few Losi parts left in it YES!!! The Novac 380 is the only sugested part I am still using and it is just as good as it's big brother the Novac Goat, I really like this motor. The stock stuff I have replaced or added to, the stock carbon fibre frame is gone and replaced with an alumnium frame, alumnium trans mount, added alum battery / radio mount, inboard shock mounts front and rear, Intigy links, Intigy axel ends and steering parts. and a Savox titanium gear high torque 1/10 steering srevo. Junk I have on the way, alum trans housing, metal trans gears and spur, and T-REX 40 axels. I guess the point of this story is that while I really like the design of this truck I think that Losi didn't go far enough on the build of it. When I first opened the box I was thinking that it was going to be the best thing scince sliced bread, then I started breaking stuff, alot of stuff. This is my first out of the box crawler and I think this experiance will just keep me building custom trucks and scalers because now that I am to the point I am at with this truck it is almost all custom anyway once the axels show up there won't be anything left of the original truck except for the body, shocks, and a very few fasteners.

Losi 1/18 Mini Rock Crawler Pro Race Roller
Bought this little fella to keep my Comp Crawler company. Out of the box the parts seem very good quality and finish. Did not like the servo/battery mount situation at all. Would have to dial out a lot of steering throw to keep wheels from rubbing on either side. Running a full size Airtronics 94361 Rock Crusher (200oz/.10sec) servo. Mounted the servo to standard 1/10 scale servo mounts and repositioned the servo dead center on the servo/batt mounting tray. Full throw in both directions now. Mounted my Maxamps 860mah 100c lipo on the opposite side of the tranny as the motor with servo tape and I'm pleased with the spot. Running the Novak Mongoose/18.5 380 Pro brushless crawler system. None of the screw holes on the motor would line up with the slots on the motor plate. A little reaming with a Dremel took care of it. I added 3 oz. of plastic Airsoft pellets to each of the front tires and 1.5 oz. to each of the rear tires (after removing the stock tire foams). The performance of this little guy really impressed me. The Novak system provides lots of torque and very decent wheel speed. The suspension has tons of articulation and the wheels just keep grabbing and grabbing until they pull you over some insane obstacles. Still got some playing around to do with shock springs (used Mini T rear shock springs) and chassis adjustments, but I was overly impressed with the ability of this crawler. Definately lots of potential here. Performance was an easy 5 stars, but having to hand fit a few things, and the very thin screws used throughout (not sure if it's gonna cause durability issues or not, time will tell) forces me to knock my review down a star. Don't hesitate to buy one of these, especially at the crazy low price!
