This is the Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit. At 630mm long, the big 1/7 scale size of the Scorpion XXL has a presence beyond its model framework that generates unparalleled excitement. This machine has a sense of power even before you drive it. This advanced racing weapon has the performance to dominate off-road courses with the insane power and the sure-footed suspension of a large scale machine. But this is not just a machine that blasts around the track. The Scorpion XXL VE/GP delivers the pure essence of off-road enjoyment with unique flexibility never before seen in a vehicle of this type.

What makes the Scorpion VE/GP unique is the multi-compatible design that allows you to build the buggy in a "VE" electric motor, or a "GP" nitro engine configuration! The kit includes all the necessary chassis componenets, allowing you to pick the power system you prefer. Plus, the design allows you to convert back and forth between nitro and electric power! Each power source has its unique characteristics to be experienced and enjoyed. All you need is the radio system and power system of your choice (electric motor, battery and accessories or gas engine, receiver pack, fuel and starting tools).

Additionally, the kit includes a range of performance parts that were previously optional such as universal swing shafts, high grip SXT-003 and SXT-004 tires, with the high-strength steel spur gear. These option parts boost performance and fun even more. Plus, a special spare parts pack made from limited edition neon blue color plastic is included. So for example, in addition to the standard black wheels, blue wheels are also included. This adds a stylish color coordinated dimension to the sharp racing performance unique to this 1/7th scale buggy.

What is a KIT? A KIT is a higher level vehicle that includes nearly everything you will need to build a rolling chassis. You will need to supply items like engine, pipe, body, tires, wheels and radio equipment. Required items may vary from kit.

Features:
  • Includes limited release colored spare parts! In addition to standard parts, blue neon colored spare parts are included as well. Install onto each section to produce a stylish finish.
  • High grip SXT-003 and SXT-004 tires are included as standard. Both standard black wheels and blue neon color wheels are included.
  • Optional universal swing shafts are included as standard. Allows uninhibited suspension movement and prevents shafts from coming loose.

  • Heavy Duty Aluminum steering servo horn included.
  • Multi-Compatible Kit lets you enjoy the benefits of both VE and GP!

  • Features cutoff switch that stops engine easily. Combines with easy-start engine to make it easier for first-time users of GP models. (GP)

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
This buggy is great to build and I made mine electric.
On 6S with a Mamba Monster system it has heaps of power.
On the sand it performs the best and is a lot of fun.
I have had problems with the diff. The diff cup has failed twice now and destroyed the internal diff gears.
I am attempting to find a solution. Hopefully soon!

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
I love this car! The build is lengthy, but very easy to do; everything is well laid out in bags, the instructions are crystal clear, and they will not call for a bag of parts until they've used up the previous bags. Versatile car too, since it can be build electric or glow; I built mine glow using a Kyosho KE-25 engine.

You will need a fairly hefty steering servo; I have a Reedy 1514MG in mine and it's *adequate*. Might change this out later on for a stronger servo. Throttle/brake on my car is done by the venerable Futaba S3004.

I used 3.8" Proline Badlands on the rear axle. they do mount to the kit-supplied wheels but you have to get a little creative in gluing them. They do hold, however; it LOVES them. Far far far better than the kit-supplied tires.

Power-wise, the KE-25 is about perfect. Something smaller will struggle to push the car through grass, something bigger will make it a bit of a handful to drive.

The kit does NOT include diff and shock oils! I ended up using 40wt shock oil in mine all the way around, and I packed my diff with wheel bearing grease. Well lubed so it won't fail, but it diffs out easy; 5-7k diff oil would be nice and the instructions call out for 7k.

If you're having issues with the diffs, it's probably because you've got too much power. I've never heard of anyone on nitro or on 4-cell electric having diff problems, it's always 6s and 8s electric builds. The car isn't designed for that kind of power anyway and will not be as fun to drive as it would be on 4s electric or on nitro. If you do insist on that kind of power, set your slipper properly; if your slipper is set right it will yield before the diff does. Why it's there in the first place!

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
I own two of these kits. They are a good quality product and pretty unique as well. They are both in nitro form. I have a Dynamite .28 big red on one and an LRP .32 on the other one. My wife and I have dedicated these as our bashers. They will take a beating and keep going. I have heard of people having issues with the diffs but I have never experienced this. That may be more of a problem with the electric/brushless rigs due to the instant torque.

The only issue I have had thus far is the exhaust coupler. It does not seal well because once you attach the pipe to the chassis, you need to slide the coupler back to where it bottoms out on the header which in turn leaves a gap which leaks.

I have not tried to remedy this issue but after looking at it, one could either shorten the coupler or modify the header. Is not a huge deal to me though. These are not our race rigs so little issues do not hold much water.

All and all, they are good quality rigs, and loads of fun to drive due to them being 2wd.

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
Awesome kit, great looking and a joy to build. The rear diff is rubbish and will be turned to mince meat in a few runs. The solution is the "CEN diff mod" then you can put in a big Leopard 4282 or 4092 on 6S for one hell of a ride

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
I have the nitro version. Fantastic machine. Love the size, big enough to be unique but small and agile enough to be run in the yard. Great plastics. Been very durable thus far. Very fun build.

Kyosho Scorpion XXL VE/GP 1/7 Scale 2wd Buggy Kit
This is my third Kyosho Scorpion. What a platform! 1/7 scale true stomping nitro. I like these parts because of their size. Everything is a little bigger and holds up very well. Some of the parts have been discontinued and can be hard to replicate, this is why I gave a 4 rating. The manual is awesome and shows a name and part number for everything on the Kyosho web site, however alot of these items are discontinued. I have been unable to locate backup spur gears. This was my first kit build and the roller came together very quickly. I am currently installing non pull start sealed back plated motors in my Scorpions. I have been able to use the Kyosho multi stater box to start the Scorpions. This platform is so unique and I feel very fortunate to be part of it. 2wd 1/7 scale nitro is serious fun that everybody should try out. This platform calls for big .28 to .32 motors. Hopefully my rear diffs will hold up to the upgraded motors. The Kyosho pull start motors that came with the first two RTR Scorpions have been okay but it's time to go next level with this platform. The kit comes with a steel spur gear that hopefully will hold up and not thrash rear diffs. I have only used plastic so far on these models and they seem to hold up good too. Plastic provides a place for the power to go so as to provide a sort of flex point. Scoop this kit if you can, as they seem to be pretty limited availability. Be a part of history with this killer platform from Kyosho!
