I just bought this as my first RC car. Man, this thing is awesome. I know it's probably not the best RC out there if you are wanting to be a pro at the races, but for novices, this thing rocks! I'm over at a base in Afghanistan and all we really have to drive on is gravel and some concrete. I've flipped it a few times and no damage, just a few scratches on the body. I did just purchase an alloy upgrade kit to replace the plastic swing arms, etc. I've noticed that since I drive on gravel, rocks get flung up into those parts, so I figured something stronger than plastic would be much more durable, although nothing has broken yet. I would definitely recommend this car!
This truck is one of the strongest trucks on the market I think! I have put mine through hell and the only thing that actually broke was a rear suspension arm. Spur gears are a concern on this car though. In the first couple of months I had it I stripped 3 spurs. But this problem is resolved by good throttle control. Recently I jumped 3 meters in the air about 20 times and never landed on the wheels, I was sure it would break but nothing! also this was on the road so there was no sand or dirt to soften the blow. Out of the box performance is not all that great, the stock tires are to hard to get any grip on dirt and are more suited to road. Stock charger is terrible, taking 8 hours to charge and then goes flat in 10 minutes. Stock radio id responsive and works well. It is 2.4ghz so running more than 1 car at once isn't a problem. Stock motor and esc work great! I have tried 7cell NiMH, 2S lipo and 3s lipo and they all work well. The esc has a training mode for beginners which sets max throttle at 50%. My slash is still stock except for 17mm hexes and some new bumper bars. It's taken hits form a brushless tekno revo 3.3 about 20 times in 1 day. and around 3 of them were at full throttle. The slash came out the other end without a problem.
This is my first rc car in 30 years, they have come a long way.
I bought this with an optional lithium battery, it is scary fast.
I have a high, steep dirt hill in my neighborhood and this thing climbs it without breaking a sweat. It's tought too. It's been head on into some curbs and keeps going. Highly recommended. The sales staff at a main was very helpful too.
Had this truck a couple months. Taken it to RC track/skatepark/BMX Track, jumped, flipped many times, NO DAMAGE! This thing is tough stock! Don't think, just buy it!!!!
Mine arrived DOA.. Some problem in the Controller or Motor. it would not run. would make a 'chirping' sound.. Tech support unable to solve, resolved it was shipped defective..
Unable to return for a new, working product.. Traxxix won't cross ship (send a prepaid replacement, then refund the cost when they receive the defective parts).. So R2R for me turned to to be "Ready to Return"..
Traxxas has been helpful and will look at the parts, but looks like I'll be paying shipping and waiting a couple weeks for my Ready to Run truck to actually run..
They should be tested before being put in the box.. The consumer should not have to pay the price for their poor Quality Control.
i got a slash 4x4 last year and bagged the shit out of it and the only thing i ever broke was the tire. unfortunately i got rid of it and bought a nitro last fall but i am buyin another one pretty soon with 2 3s lipos and a venom charger. i loved it when i had it and miss being able to bash it hard and not wreck it which is why i cant wait to get my new one:)
Great truck, lot's of fun and I've found it to be very durable even for me. I'm an expert and destroying RC cars and it took me a fairly long time and hitting a pole at full acceleration to give it a minor break.
Cons:
1. Binding in the half-shafts. This is easy to deal with if you just sand them a few times.
2. Stuff gets in the drive shaft and slipper clutch area.
3. Screws strip easy, although I have noticed that I tend to strip screws a lot so maybe it's me!
4. Front springs are too short. Just replace with Losi springs.
Pros:
1. Great ESC and Motor, waterproof electronics.
2. Fast, supports Lipo stock
3. Durable
4. Very easy to work on, simple design.
All the cons are very minor. Every RC is going to have some give and take. Overall I'm extremely satisfied.
own this, I have a slash 4x4, a very nice shortcourse, but I have replaced just about everything, mainly because I run a lipo, and 1/8 badland tires, steel driveshafts(which i had to reweld), but, i would want nothing else, this truck has been through more than anyone would want to put theirs through, at the park when I am all done, I take the body off and run this under the hose, man do I get the looks if they only knew. A few neccesary mods of rpm a-arms and replacing plastic with aluminum, the only regret is that i didn't just buy the platinum. Would definately recommend this to anyone.
What a great truck. I've had this truck for a couple of years now and It just won't break. I've only had to replace one A-arm and a center drive shaft and because it's so easy to work on it only takes minutes to replace part's. I have read that a lot of people are having problems with the speed control and motor burning up and i'll be honest they do get very hot. I'm still running the original equipment, but i do have the cooling fan available for the speed controller and I only run 2s Lipos. If you run 3s Lipos you'll probably have problems. The only reason i'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it's not very good for racing. It's top heavy and you'll find yourself rolling quite a bit. I plan to get the LCG kit in the near future and hopefully solve this problem. Maybe then I can give it 5 stars. Even though I have two other trucks (SC10/OFNA TS4 Pro) more suited for racing I just can't part with this truck. I can always rely on it when the more fragile trucks break. If your in the market for a truck and aren't planning on any serious racing, look no further and buy this truck. You won't be dissapointed.
I love this car. My only recommendation is that you get Teknos or MIPS if you are going to run a 3s. And make sure you gear mesh is set proporly. Other than that it was been a great truck and i have had no problems with it. I would also get a better charger the one you get takes 4 hours to change a 7cell.
I got this about 2 months ago and put a 3s lipo in it and it goes really fast. The first day i broke the differential axle yolk. I would go get a new part, put it on and it would break right away...i would recommend getting metal cvd joints. I got mip cvd's for front and rear and they havent broke yet. It is a great truck if u want to bash it hard. I made a track with some pretty big jumps for an rc car and havent had to replace any suspension or a-arms. I even took it off some jumps on my motocross track. Its a great car for new people to the sport...its relatively easy to work with and has a really fast motor. Its even great for experienced too.
ive had this big boy for about a year now and yes sh it brakes and yes u need to repair but everything has faults and this thing rocks i advize every person who likes raceing or bashing to buy one the only thing i have had problems with is the shock carriers and thats becouse i bag it but the motor is as strong as i got still and i race mine and its awsome buy one guys u wont be wasteing ur money
Excellent truck! Worth every penny!
Within the first 10 minutes, I did break a rear bearing carrier, but after an easy upgrade to RPM, this is nearly the only thing I've broken. It's also worth noting that Traxxas immediately sent me a new pair of rear bearing carriers without any hassle! The rear bumper took several months of intense thrashing before it developed a crack, and after running 3s in the dirt for a few packs, I did loose my motor mount bearing. All this in about 5 months in which I used the truck at least 3 times a week. (total repair cost <$30) I had a bit of trouble with the truck's steering, but again without any hassle, Traxxas sent me a new servo and new transmitter free of charge. Customer service is a pleasure to deal with! They even called me back a week later to make sure I wasn't having any trouble with the new items and that I was happy with my truck!
Bottom line: The issues I've had have been minimal, and overall, this thing has taken many hits that I still feel SHOULD have broken something but haven't. The 4wd is great and with a 3s, this thing screams! Not a moment I've regretted my purchase.

for just mainly bashing the best tires to get are either proline trenchers or calibers in the m2 or m3 compund. The trenchers will last alot longer bu the calibers will gice you alot more grip but the trenchers do give u a good aamount of grip over stock.
Nice truck, fun play car, just bought the Jammin scrt10, wish I had just got the Jammin first and never spent money on the slash. slash is fun and good for beginners and kids, racers get the Jammin.
i have a slash 4x4 dont really understand the programming part of the 2.4ghz controller upgraded to aluminum parts already went with gh hobby they are awsome parts -//- i recently used a 11.1v lipo there was so much torque the front diveshaft hub snapped in two upgrading to aluminum version driveshaft hub from strc racing if anyone has any driveline upgrades please post in reveiws -//- i have had my slash 4x4 for a week and somehting bad happened the speed control starting stinking after i ran 11.1v 5000mah venom lipo but other than that it has held up pretty well there is a new short course track being built i cant wait to actually run on a track made for short coarse it will be awsome -//- i just got the slash 4x4 mike jenkins edition it is awsome i am getting ready to build a full body roll cage but really dont know how it gonna turn out
I've had this beast for about 2 mo. now and still can't believe it's toughness. I've jumped it about 30 foot(off skate board ramp), cart-wheeled across yard and slammed into another slash several times and haven't been able to break a thing (I'VE TRIED). Just recently and solely for appearance purposes, the only upgrades so far are BB shocks, strc rear wheel hubs and shock towers. You won't believe it till you see it but 95% of the time, after flips, jumps and dives it lands on its feet. The body is now almost shot and not any breakage. You will love it!!
Great car out of the box. I started with RC10s a long time ago. Compared to the Slash 4WD, the RC10 seems pathetic. You'll want to get a good intelligent charger that will handle LIPO when you're ready. The charger that comes with it needs 8 hours. A good one will charge the stock battery pack in 45 minutes. Steering is twitchy on dirt and gravel but the transmitter can compensate for that. You'll want to play around with the shocks according to your track but the potential is definitely there to be everything you want it to be. The car is well made and tough. The transmitter seems flimsy but works well. Easily maintainable and easy to clean up after running in dirt or mud. I'm having a lot of fun with it.
bought one great truck real durable, real fast i own the greg adler truck its my first electric and definatly not my last if anything probably another slash there just all around great trucks great on the track and great for bashing. never seems like it wants to over heat, one thing i do want to change is it seems the progressive shocks are just a bit to soft in the back but hpi shocks (2.5) work good with the (2.0) in the front.
