This is a Werks Racing Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8th Scale Off Road Clutch System, with Carbon shoes. This version will work with any 1/8th Scale Off Road Buggy. This clutch system is completely adjustable to allow you to fine tune the performance of the clutch to best match the power characteristics of your engine and the track conditions. The beauty of this system is that you can fine tune the spring tension and adjust the RPM setting that the engine will engage at without changing the clutch. Just remove the clutch bell and turn the clutch adjusting nut! The tuning features of this clutch are desribed below, however the recommended starting setup is to use the Carbon shoes with gold spring set, and the spring tension nut should be set to 1 turn from flush.

Clutch Springs:

The Clutch springs are available in three different tensions. Silver is the hardest, Green is medium and Gold is the softest. You can use the clutch springs to fine tune the RPM that the clutch system will engage at. The stiffer the spring, the later the clutch will engage allowing the engine to spool up to higher RPM's before the clutch will grab. Generally if you have an engine with lots of bottom end, use a softer spring. If you need to get more bottom end snap from your engine, use a stiffer spring.

Clutch Shoes:

The clutch system is available with shoes in three different compounds, which work differently and allow you to fine tune how hard the shoes will grab when they engage. The different compounds are:

Carbon: The Carbon clutch shoes have moderate wear and are a common first choice. They have a linear feel, with a moderate amount of bite and are easy to tune.

Rulon: The Rulon clutch shoes on the other hand usually have higher wear, but the amount of wear is vastly dependant on the amount of slip allowed. They do however have the most grip, but the grip increases with temperature. To properly tune the Rulon shoes you have to be aware of this property, as they will make the engine bog more after about 45 seconds of use (The clutch grabs more so it locks harder). So make sure that you adjust the shoes when the clutch and engine are hot and expect them to slip a little when you first fire up the engine. The Rulon shoes would make an excellent choice of clutch shoe for high traction tracks with an engine with strong bottom end, provided you put in the time to tune them correctly.

Teflon: The Teflon clutch shoes have the least amount of grip but have excellent wear. These shoes are best suited to low traction conditions. Teflon clutch shoes are also beneficial for engines that have less bottom end, as they will allow the engine to spool up and stay in the powerband before they grab completely.

Tuning Options:

Due to the 4 shoe design of this clutch system, there are many different tuning variables you can play with to get the ultimate clutch setup. For instance if you like the way the clutch works with the carbon shoes but want a little less slip, you can run 2 carbon shoes and 2 rulon shoes! Or if you want the engine to spool up a bit before the clutch fully grabs, try running 2 carbon shoes and 2 teflon shoes. That way you can avoid using a stiffer spring to get the clutch to grab at higher RPM's, but still allow it to full spool up before it fully engages.

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
I see some bad reviews and have no idea why... I run this clutch on my Losi buggy for about a year now (winter champs, nationals, summer champs and winter champs now again) and hardly see any wear in shoes (4 carbon). I bought this clutch second hand on ebay with two sets of "destroyed" shoes (have no idea how, the only thing in my mind is bad setup and just burn it?) so had to get new shoes, bought two sets thinking it will get me through a year and second set still in the box... So in my opinion anyone that says it lasts for 4-5 tanks, just don't get setup right and burns it. My setup is soft spring and early engagement, I like it that way, it keeps car in line and easier to drive, maybe thats why it lasts so long for me? I also used new clutch bell, not the one that was damaged with aluminium shoes. Anyway, I can see I am not the only one that runs it for a year and still going.. Oh, and I use a little bit of thread lock to make sure adjusting nut stays in place (never got loose for me though)

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
I don't like telling local racers I use this because it works great and last forever if set up correctly.

Big advantage over those using aluminum shoes and cutting up clutch bells...

hope they never stop making this clutch!

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
Clutch work just fine, you have to spend sometime tunning it, but is awesome when you hit the right configuration, only problem is that you have to change your shoes for every hit to reach the 100% performance. Im using 2XRulon - 2XCarbon - soft spring

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
Its a junk... I buy this to my Team Losi Muggy with RB928. First i try 4x carbon shose, its burns after hmm 4 tanks ? Then i try 2x carbon + 2x rulon , the same situation, burns in 4-5 tanks. I buy a new engine (GRP Tuned .28) so i instal it again, 2x rulon+2x carbon and what ? BURN !! So i give it last chance, i instal 4x rulon shose. And You know what? Its burn after hmm 5 tanks, WOW what a greate clutch !!! 1 star for this shit... Ahh and with HPI clutch with 3 shose NOVA alu works normal, noting burns... Now i try Fironi Turbo clutch , i hope its beter than this "great" clutch...

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
I can't believe that there are actually a couple of bad reviews about this clutch system. I have been running this clutch with two carbon and two rulon shoes for over a year now and it is by far the best out on the market.... extremely low maintenance and the shoes last for a long time, you can adjust it according to the track conditions. I have not had any problems at all with this clutch, I changed out the last set of shoes after three gallons of fuel just as a preventative maintenance and they are still in great shape.... I no that the clutch system is not cheap but in the long run, a very good investment... I highly recommend this product...

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!
This would have to be the best clutch on the market.
You have a choice of 3 different shoe options and 3 different spring options.
You can then mix the shoe combinations.

I am amazed at the people that buy a product like this, and then bag it out
because the options are too much for them to work out.

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
I bought this clutch for my X1 CRT and had nothing but problems out of it. The adjusting nut was constantly coming loose, even after I scratched the threads and loctited it. Spent $66 on the clutch, and then another $20something on the shoes, because the first ones got crushed by the adjusting nut. Fioroni clutch was 100 times easier to set up.

Werks Adjustable 4-Shoe 1/8 Off Road Clutch System (Carbon)
this is a great clutch. i write this to counter the bad review that was left. it is very important to read the instructions and adjust the tightness of the clutch nut on the spring. if not properly done the clutch will not work right. for longevity and reliability and easy of maintenance this is a great product.
