This is the Ninja JX21 B01A 5 Port Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine from Mugen Seiki! This is a high performance 3.5cc Off-Road engine, using today's most advanced technology. The engine has been designed for maximum strength and highest specifications for serious and real racing. Fabricated from the finest materials available, it will insure less friction movement for higher speed and more economical fuel consumption.

The engine, OEM manufactured by O.S. Engines for Ninja, is loosely based on their V-Spec with some custom features: the crankcase is from the O.S. 28XZ engine and does not feature the distinctive O.S. 'black' coating, the sleeve port design is a bit different from the V-Spec, head design, the crankshaft has the same 'DLC' coating as the O.S. Speed V-spec but without counterweights. All in all a mix up of a few O.S. engines and Ninja branding.

Basically this engine is similar to a 5-port O.S. V-Spec engine!

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
Fantastic engine...1st OS after 7+ years of Novarossi based engines. Stupid fast...yet silky smooth. Currently a tad under 5 gals...replaced rod & installed TKOs at the 3 gal mark. I highly recommend this engine, one of the best I've ever run. Using 8mm restrictor on large tracks & 6mm on indoor/tight tracks in MBX6T with Ninja pipe. The OS 2050 pipe works very well too...takes a bit off the top and adds bottom. Great engine, wish I had more than 1.

This is the best engine around. It runs great with and seems to have miles of top end. And tuning is easy and only needs a quarter of a turn at the most for tuning and runs close to eleven minutes with a full tank.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
Have about 3 gallons through it and this has to be the most reliable engine I have owned. Be it cold indoor tracks or huge outdoor tracks in super hot weather this will not quit. Very smooth power that is always useable. Odonnell #97t, Byrons 25%, and os 2060 works awesome with it.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
Ran this engine for the 2009 season and plan to run it for the 2010 season. After the third gallon of byrons 20% I changed both bearings - even though there were no problems with the bearings. I run an OS 2060 with the L header, Runs around 215 degrees. Holds a tune very very well, only requires minor adjustments once I got it raced tuned. I use it in my D8 and am planning on purchasing a second engine for my RC8T Truggy. I always use OS P3 plugs, I run a 7mm carb resistrictor and get 11 minutes per tank.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
pulled right at 12mins with this motor, on a jamminx2 truggy and jp4!!!! love it -//- well ran my ninja at the track this weekend and got it race tuned. this motor has very, very good bottomend, and top end just keeps on rev. with a jp-4 on my jamminx2. i dont have to push as hard to get over everything. so far i love it. it is ezy to find a tune also. keep ya updated... -//- brake in is ok, but alot of pinch. i have 9 to 10 tanks so far. got temp around 200 and this thing is a bad boy!! still playing with it and will keep ya posted.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
Initial thoughts after break in are it has typical OS reliability in terms of tuning. It is a bit like the vspec on bottom end but hang on once you pull the hammer. Seems like it take a bit more "running in" before you can slap a race tune on it. Excellent motor for a truggy.

@ Sharon Smith: LOSB0085 is the 8ight-T RTR. It has a Dynamite/Losi engine on it. You've given a highly-regarded Mugen engine a bad review instead.

Every new engine is tight. With a new engine of any brand, you need to heat it up before trying to start it. Use a heat gun (or even a hair dryer if you have to) to get it up to at least 160ºf (ideal is 180ºf to 200ºf). Aim the heat at the block, not the head. Then it will turn much easier.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
Amazing! I have a about 7-8 gallons on this, with a jp-3 which eats gas like crazy but from break in to now It has gone from about 7-8 minutes a tank to 11-13 minutes right now. I love this engine and will be certainly be buying anther in the future. It has gotten better and better ever since I first bought it. It has little pinch now and I considered getting it pinched but nitro season is almost over, and it is running its best so I will keep it as is.

Thanks Mugen!

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
all racing engines are tight when new. they need proper break in with heating the engine up before trying to start it. Have couple of them and they run strong, easy to tune and grat runtimes.

Mugen Seiki Ninja JX21 B01A 5-Port Off-Road Competition Buggy Engine (Light Weight Head)
this motor is awesome. I own several other high end engines such as Novas and OS....but I have to admit, this one has served me well. It has 8 gallons on it, stays tuned, and I purchased a new rod just because I normally need to changed them at this point on other motors....but, there is almost no measurable wear on the crank pin or on the rod bushings! I am very happy with this motor because of its longevity and its performance. Its a little expensive but it performs like an avid racer expects. I think the coated crank has turned this Vspec' ish motor into a great performer.
