This is the Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Package. Castle has done it again. The new Sidewinder SCT combo is designed for domination in short course racing truck classes. It's ideal for upgrading 2WD and 4WD 1/10 scale short course trucks to quality brushless power.

The Sidewinder SCT controller offers a 40% increase in power handling over the previous Sidewinder 1/10 but keeps the same great Sidewinder affordability and reliability. The 4 pole 1410 1Y motor offers 50% more torque than Castle's CM36 series motors of similar kv, and the included CC Blower fan and shroud will help to keep your motor cool so you can run with the big boys.

The Sidewinder SCT is ready to run out of the box, but it is completely Castle Link™ compatible, so drivers can use their Castle Link and Windows PC to tune and tweak all their favorite settings such as brake and throttle curves, throttle response, drag brake and many other parameters that add up to an incredible RC driving experience.

NOTE: This ESC will require a firmware update in order to be compatible with Airtronics 92424 and 92425 receivers, as well as Futaba R153F receivers.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
This system is off the chain. You can really feel the torque side of the motor. It is easy to install and setup. Don't use the screws that come with the combo use the screws that come out of your Traxxas VXL system and tighten them down all the way to clear the motor mount. This thing screams on 2s lipo just remember to monitor your motor and esc temps periodically. Castle Creations has top notch technical support. You wiil not regret investing in this system,

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Performance seems similar to VXL with same gearing. Temps approx 40 degrees f lower. Day: 91 degrees f, track loose top with sand on top (low traction), track temp about 110, Traxxas Slash 4x4 2s lipo, 13x54 gearing, Caliber m3 tires. VXL, motor 218 avg, ESC 196 avg 2 battery run, 15 minutes between runs. Sidewinder, motor 168 avg, ESC 172 avg 2 battery run, 10 minutes between runs. No fans for cooling were used for either setup in this case. Point: runs much cooler for similar performance in this example. This should lead to better durability...

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Hiya folks. I felt I needed to say a couple of words here because reading the other reviews leads me to understand that people don't quite 'get' what this system offers over 'other' 540 systems, such as the velineon for example. If you swapped out your velineon or other system for this system with no other changes, you'd get roughly the same performance, except it would run cooler and give you better battery duration. Where this system absolutely leaves the 2-pole 540 motors behind is on torque. You can gear up your slash VXL or whatever, a LOT before you start to strain the capabilities of this motor. This motor makes a lot more power than a non-4-pole 540, and should get the recognition it deserves for the little technical marvel that it is. I'm running this in a SCRT10 on 3S with 16/46 gearing and tearing the place up. Put the fan that's meant for the motor on top of the ESC instead, since the motor is never going to get warm. Remember that being a 4-pole, it will behave as if it was a 7500kv (twice as many poles), but run as cool as a 3800kv, so GET SOME BIGGER PINIONS GUISE!11!!

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Just put this in my XXX-SCT, and wow!

Amazing. Not too fast that it's unusable, but an excellent amount of power in standard setup.

Highly recommend!

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Put this motor in a slash 4x4 instead of the velineon which took a crap. I used a mmp for the esc instead of the esc the combo comes with-all i have to say is "WOW" this motor screams! I'm using a 17t pinion and a 54t spur gear-tremendous torque and blistering top speed! You won't regret getting this combo! It's even faster than my ballistic 550 4.5 with a 14mm rotor! All I have to say is Go For It!

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
For the slash 4x4 people, the ESC has a very cheap feel to it, but after a day at the track it seems pretty good. I run 15/54 on both the vxl and this setup, and the castle system seems a little faster on the top end, and has more torque. I ran a whole 6k 2s through it and the temps were 125 on the motor and 160 on the esc. I hooked it up to the laptop with the castle link, and it worked great, lots of tuning options. Thats my main reason for upgrading, and at 100 bucks, its a great bargain. At the least you'll have an extra vxl in the tool box as a spare.

I gave it 5 stars, because of the value, 100 bucks is a steal although the esc feels a little on the cheap side.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Great combo. Put this in the Losi XXX-SCT, with stock spur and a 16t pinon. Motor stays at ambient temp, with ESC running a little warmer after a full pack. Great performance for the money.

Has an issue with the ESC, called Castle, sent it in for warranty repair, let them know I had a big race coming up, within 2 days I had a new ESC shipped to me, 3 days after that, it was at my door. Great customer service! Has made me a Castle customer for life with their service.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Well, installed it programmed nice and easy it ran for about 6 min total and now just a steady flashing green light from speed control no matter what adjustments, batteries etc thats all I get - steering works though. I have been trying to get ahold of castle for help but my work hours and theirs make it tough. When it was working it turned my Losi SCT into a rocket it was like driving a whole new truck. Only 3 stars because I have only been able to use it for 6min.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
had this system on a 4x4 slash for a couple of months racing at local track. this is "THE" motor for short course racing. Punch (torc) is awsome, top end great running 14/54 nobody pulls on me no matter what they run or how much it cost. The speed control however needs a little something. fryed my esc in two weekends took castle 5 weeks to get it back, but it is brand new with some obvious updates, like taller cooling fins. Pair this motor up with the mamba max pro esc and it is an awsome performer as well as nearly bulletproof! by the way that is what I'm running now and the sct esc is a good spare. The cooling fan that comes with this thing is a freeby because that is what its worth, have seen them last as long as a month as little as an hour on the track. The motor is worth the price of this package.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
I bought this system to put in a Helion Dominus 10tr 4x4 Truggy. It replaced a Radient 3500kv 2 pole brushless system. With the stock gearing there is barely a difference in power, but with this being a 4 pole motor you can gear this to the moon. i dropped a 19 tooth pinion and it rips! top speed went from 32 with the stock system to 51 mph with the sidewinder on a 5000mah 2s lipo! there is torque all over the power band as well, i still have enough torque to pull a wheelie from a dead stop, then I can fly over terrain at full speed. I have read alot of reviews about the ESC not being powerful enough for the motor but even after a good bash session with two batteries ran through it the ESC hasn't gotten over 110 degrees and the motor not over 140 even without the fan. Brakes are incredible too, excellent stopping power and jumping is improved 100%. i have had problems with the on/off switch which is par for the course for castle. but their customer support is top notch. if your thinking about it, then get it, you will not regret it at all.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
I put this motor and controller into an ECX Torment and let me tell you the only bad thing about it was the motor had so much power it basically required me to replace everthing from inside the gear box to the wheel wells! Great Power and an awesome addition for someone wanting to get into Brushless power and Lipo.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Absolutely awesome system! Has a lot of torque and power and the motor runs really cool but the ESC runs hot. So to keep it from thermaling just put the fan over the ESC. Great for any 4wd sct buggy and truck. Highly recomended

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
I ran this in my sc10 brushless truck and it was about the same speed as the stock 3300 but with a little more torque. The ESC has horrible brakes or at least it seems like it. I upgraded to the Mamba Max Pro ESC and it made ALL the difference. I now have that setup in my 4X4 SC10 and I LOVE it. I can hang with the 550 guys in the straights, I have brakes set at 50% and it does indo's, and my temps are running 130-140 which is WAY cooler than the 550 guys who are constantly having heat issues.

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
this combo has proved to be amazing in my first several weeks of use (Bashing and Racing). its in my slash 2wd, once i used the castle field link to turn the timing all the way up i was able to slightly outperform a slash 4x4 both on nimh 4200mAh batteries. As far as racing, which was on a smaller track, it kept up very well with all the brushless open class lipo guys while i was still on protek 4600 6 cell nimh. YES I SAID 6 CELL! unfortunately it seemed to get hot fast (im sure it was the timing being all the way up). id like to apply a 9.6v nimh but im not sure based on the fact that it has a 2s max, although ive heard of people running 3s with no problem. anyway great buy for the money.

so far love the power and torque the motor has. the esc is not the best. it does not work well in my losi comp crawler for low speeds but castle has been very helpful other wise

Castle Creations Sidewinder 1/10 Scale Short Course Brushless Combo w/Neu-Castle 1410 (3800kV)
Installed in FT SC10 this past weekend running 19/87. Installed the fan over the ESC. On a few runs with different 2s lipos with my Thunderpower 65c being the best battery the hottest the motor got was about 105 degrees. ESC didn't seem to be getting too hot, but will have to reserve judgement until I get it on the track and run it several laps.
The motor in this combo is brutal to say the least. I couldn't keep the front of the truck down with my servo travel set to 100%, so I backed it down to 60% and it's still brutal but manageable. I haven't changed any of the default settings, I hope some tuning will make the power delivery more linear.
Overall with only a few days of ownership, I'm happy with the combo at the price offered, let just hope other manufactures get on board and we see prices drop on their offerings.
