"This kit is so smooth to build. Parts fit great while building, tons of hop ups, informative videos, and advice online, the stock setup honestly is really good. The only thing I would recommend straight away is the aluminum servo saver arm, a few spring and sway bar options. Then send it!" - Austin - Verified Owner
The Mugen Seiki MBX8R 1/8 Off-Road Competition Nitro Buggy Kit is designed to offer racers a cutting-edge advantage. With numerous enhancements over its predecessors, the MBX8R delivers improved stability, enhanced rear traction, superior jumping capabilities, and a broad tuning range. These updates provide racers with the necessary adjustments to tackle any track condition.
About The MBX8R
Suspension
The suspension system integrates updated "C" and "D" blocks with refined inserts for enhanced performance. Durable, impact-resistant material is employed to craft longer box-shaped arms, ensuring increased longevity. Notably, the rear uprights have been upgraded, utilizing carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) to facilitate roll center adjustments. These enhancements contribute to a more tunable and advanced suspension system.
Chassis and Drivetrain
The chassis underwent an overhaul to align with the updated suspension geometry. Significantly, the drivetrain experienced substantial enhancements in the differential system. High Traction Differentials (HTD) are now employed to deliver heightened acceleration, extended runtimes, and more dependable handling. The differential upgrades include a larger volume differential cup, promoting consistency and facilitating precise timing through rhythm sections, thereby enhancing traction. Additionally, at the rear of the chassis, a lightweight, IFMAR-compliant, high downforce wing is incorporated to further refine jumping performance.
Clutch
The provided 4-shoe clutch is a sophisticated component that offers ease of maintenance and tuning. Crafted from aluminum, this 34mm clutch is equipped with adjustable spring tension, allowing precise customization of engagement to align with the racer's engine, track conditions, and individual preferences. The clutch is coupled with a 13T clutch bell to deliver optimal out-of-the-box performance.

I recently switched from Tekno cars to mugen and am super happy I did the buggies are really stiff when new but after fully breaking in they get better & better every drive!!! Highly recommend these cars
• Manual and literature
o Poor English, spelling errors and poor instructions everywhere (for $850)
o Instructions are hard to follow. There are no arrows indicating what is front/rear, what is up/down, or in which direction are the detailed views supposed to be seen, etc. There are parts in the kit missing instructions how to install them.
o Missing instructions and optional part needed to turn the CVDs into universals.
o The manual look is outdated when compared to Tekno or Xray, even the Sworkz that is black and white looks better.
• The amount of B0330Z super joint grease in the kit is a joke. With a tag price of $850 I would have expected at least the amount of grease needed to complete the kit and some more to service it a couple of times.
• One piece wing mount design suck. At least the 3 hex pockets that are apparently intended to prevent the hex nuts from spinning. In the MBX8R complete build video from Adam Drake you can clearly see he uses some pliers to prevent the nuts from spinning.
• Front suspension pillow ball got loose just after the first 13min race. This is not supposed to be a serviceable part, you are not supposed to check if it is tighten or not, and there is no way to tighten it. This is a serious quality concern. Beware you may get your $850 kit destroyed in the first race.
• The center differential top plastic piece hits the fuel tank. With the MBX7R I got 4 tanks broken leaking until I Dremeled the edge of that plastic piece off.
• Weak servo supports (small footprint), it flexes a lot when you apply the breaks. Had the same issue with the MBX7R.
• CVDs are included with the kit. However seems like universals (not included) are preferred.
• One-piece center differential supports. Sworkz, Tekno and Xray already have the two-piece plastic support for ease of center diff service. With the MBX8R you need to remove all, and part of the electronics or the fuel tank or one of the diff boxes to be able to service the center diff.
• No air filter support to the fuel tank. It rubs against the brake linkages. I wouldn’t be surprised if it falls off after some big jumps.
• No room for two 18650 batteries whereas Sworkz battery tray has enough room for them. Not a big deal, I had modified the battery tray myself to make the batteries fit. I cut a big hole on the side and on the top cover.
• Still the same small weird shaped radio box. I have an old Hitec Lynx radio/receiver, it’s always been a pain to fit the switch, receiver, transponder and manage the cables inside the small box. I can’t tell why it has that weird shape, would be great if it is made bigger and square, there is enough room at the back of the chassis.
• Front brakes get stuck from time to time. Seems like a design issue. The linkages do not lay parallel to each other. The distance between the linkages at the servo horn vs the distance between the centers of the levers do not match, which causes the front linkage cone bushing to get stuck with the lever, braking the front axle at neutral position.
• PLASTIC steering servo horn E2803A, PLASTIC servo saver arm E2301A and PLASTIC front upper plate E2148. $850 for what?
• The front bumper design doesn't protect the front of the aluminum chassis from chipping when entering the ramps. An integrated skid plate like the Sworkz one would be great.
• Some part numbers like the shock ends E0545, and the differential box E2142 are now discontinued just after few months that the MBX8R was released...
I'm quite disappointed...
