Racers at A Main Hobbies’ off-road tracks are separated for competition by both car type and skill level, and the following is a synposis of the rules for each of the different classes that are offered. If you wish to race a class that is not listed here, please let us know and we can consider adding it to our program.
Please note that, due to attendance or special events, we may not offer all classes on the same race days. Check the Race Calendar to find what classes are racing on each race day.
Novice
The Novice class is for entry-level drivers that are new to RC racing. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any 1/10 scale electric off-road vehicle.
- Motor: 27T brushed motors, or 17.5T to 21.5T brushless motors. 21.5T is highly recommended for Novices.
- Batteries: 6-cell NiMH batteries, or 2-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries
- Tires: Any tires are allowed.
- Bodies: Any body style is allowed.
- Minimum Weight: None.
Modified 2WD Buggy
The Modified 2WD Buggy is for intermediate to advanced racers who wish to run hotter motors, and is often one of the largest and most competitive divisions at the track. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 2-wheel drive buggy style chassis.
- Motor: Any brushless motor. Generally this class will be 13.5T motors and lower.
- Batteries: 6-cell NiMH batteries, or 2-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries
- Tires: Any wheel with rubber tires intended for the class is allowed.
- Bodies: Any 2WD buggy body intended for the class.
- Minimum Weight: 1500 grams.
Modified 4WD Buggy
The Modified 4WD Buggy is for intermediate to advanced racers who wish to run 4-wheel drive buggies for higher performance. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 4-wheel drive buggy style chassis.
- Motor: Any brushless motor. Generally this class will be 10.5T motors and lower.
- Batteries: 6-cell NiMH batteries, or 2-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries
- Tires: Any wheel with rubber tires intended for the class is allowed.
- Bodies: Any 4WD buggy body intended for the class.
- Minimum Weight: 1613 grams.
Modified 2WD Truck
The Modified 2WD Truck for intermediate to advanced racers who wish to be able to run any motor combination. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 1/10 2-wheel drive truck style chassis (excluding short course).
- Motor: Any brushless motor. Generally this class will be 13.5T motors and lower.
- Batteries: 6-cell NiMH batteries, or 2-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries
- Tires: Any wheel with rubber tires intended for the class is allowed.
- Bodies: Any 2WD truck body intended for the class.
- Minimum Weight: 1700 grams.
Open 2WD Short Course Truck
The Open 2WD Short Course Truck class is a great class for both intermediate and advanced racers alike, and offers very realistic looking vehicles. Many racers will find they can turn faster lap times in with 13.5T Super Stock motors than they can with higher powered modified motors. If you are relatively new to off-road racing, you should consider running this class and sticking to a 13.5T brushless motor. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 2-wheel drive Short Course Truck style chassis.
- Motor: Any brushless motor. Generally this class will be 10.5T motors and lower.
- Batteries: 6-cell NiMH batteries, or 2-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries
- Tires: Any rubber tire/wheel designed specifically for short course trucks is allowed in this class. 1/8 Buggy tires are NOT allowed!
- Bodies: Any short course truck style body.
- Minimum Weight: 2098 grams.
Open 4WD Short Course Truck
The Open 4WD Short Course Truck class is for intermediate to advanced racers alike, with realistic looking trucks that are easy to drive. You must run 4WD trucks in this class. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 4-wheel drive Short Course Truck style chassis.
- Motor: Any brushless motor; 550-size or 4-pole motors are commonly used.
- Minimum Weight: None.
Open 4WD 1/8 Scale Electric Buggy
The Open 4WD 1/8 Scale Electric Buggy class is for expert racers only, as the size and weight of the cars makes them potentially very dangerous; drivers who don’t exhibit proper control of their buggies may be asked not to race this class until his or her skills improve. The rules for this class are:
- Chassis: Any off-road 1/8 Buggy electric chassis (conversions welcome).
- Motor: Any brushless 1/8 scale motor. We recommend 1700KV and lower motors for our track. 1400KV is just about perfect with the right gearing.
- Batteries: 3-cell or 4-cell hard case Li-Poly batteries only.
- Tires: Any rubber tire/wheel designed specifically for 1/8 buggies is allowed in this class.
- Bodies: Any 1/8 scale buggy style body.
- Minimum Weight: None.
